What is counselling, and how can it help me?

Counselling is a supportive and confidential process where you can talk with a trained professional about your thoughts, feelings, and challenges. It can help you to find solutions to your issues, coping strategies and clarity, ultimately leading to improved emotional well-being and personal growth.

Do I need to have a diagnosed mental health condition to benefit from counselling?

No, counselling can help with a wide range of challenges, not just diagnosed conditions. It's also valuable for managing stress, improving relationships, personal growth, and enhancing overall well-being. You don't need a diagnosis to benefit from therapy.

What can I expect from the 15 minute introductory call?

This is a chance for us to get to know each other, and for you to decide whether you would like to work with me. I will ask you to briefly explain what help you are looking for, and I will then suggest how I am able to approach this with you. There is no pressure to continue working with me, and you will not be put on the spot! I will encourage you to take some time to think about whether I am the right therapist for you.

I'm not sure how to explain my issues, can counselling still help me?

Having had counselling myself, I understand that sometimes it can be difficult to put into words what is going on inside. Sometimes it can be more of a general feeling that something isn't quite right. This is something that we can explore together, to first of all work out what is going on inside, then to come up with a plan on how to work through this.

Is everything we speak about confidential?

It is important that you feel able to safely open up about anything you wish to discuss. Everything we speak about will remain confidential unless you pose a danger to yourself or somebody else. This is something that will be discussed in our first session so that you know exactly where you stand with regard to confidentiality.

What is the difference between counselling and coaching?

Counselling focuses on addressing emotional, mental, or psychological issues and promoting healing. Coaching, on the other hand, primarily aims at setting and achieving specific goals and personal development, such as career or fitness. The key difference is that counselling delves deeper into personal challenges, while coaching is about reaching your aspirations. Although they are different approaches, some methods do overlap, depending on the issues we are working on.

How long will it take?

Sessions usually take place on a weekly basis and can typically last from four weeks to one year or more. This varies greatly from person to person, as it depends on your unique circumstances and needs. Of course, I will offer my professional opinion and guidance, but ultimately, you have the freedom to determine the number of sessions and how often they occur, and you can choose when you feel ready to conclude the process.

What will it cost?

Counselling is £50 per 50 minute session.

Therapeutic Coaching is £60 per 60 minute session.
